Creating a Product in 5 Steps

We were recently asked to write a guest blog post for Futurpreneur Canada on our lessons learned from creating our Personalized Kids Books. Here are some of the things we learned to do and not to do over the past year as book producers: http://www.futurpreneur.ca/en/2016/creating-a-product-with-magnetree/ We still have a long road ahead and we are *SO* excited with all the new things we have in development right now. Being a creative is harder than they said (oh wait, am I supposed to be a starving artist?) But with the right planning and support you can make unbelievable things happen!  - Josie

Jumping into the 'Mompreneur' Title

Starting your business can be exhilarating and terrifying. Starting a business, when you're 30, when you have a babe on your hip tends to be a little bit more of the latter. And yet so many of us women do it. We take risks, spend hours away from our little munchkins and lean heavily on the help of our partners, family and friends. But at the end of the day, if you want something that is all your own - it is *so* worth it.  In Mamas & Co. I found a home full of other moms/entrepreneurs that kick ass at business and life. Inspire Your Child by Being a Creative Parent

By Louisa Atto, ARTB412. “I’m bored!” How many times have you heard that? You’re approached by a child biting back a frown as he or she almost breaks into a whine. Make them un-bored, of course,...

I’ve never been too big into the resolutions part of New Year’s Eve. “I will never drink that much again” was pretty much the whole plan and a yearly favourite. But since having Lenny and starting a company things have slowed down a bit. So as I sit down to work with a cup of coffee at 8:15pm I decided to write out a short, achievable list of resolutions that apply to both parenthood and running a new business. Use Your Indoor Voice – I’m not the “you catch more flies with honey” type, but I’ve noticed something about the way I’ve been communicating with both toddlers and adults lately. When my nearly-terrible-two throws a hissy fit in the...

Why We Won't Have Another Sale

While everyone is prepping their store windows, ‘no returns’ signs by the cash registers, and coupon codes for 70% off (select items), we’ll be over here all like “Nope.” You may have seen this before. You find a brand that you absolutely adore but their products never go on sale. You still buy some of their stuff, but you don’t find yourself rampaging through their aisles, ripping a steam cooker out of a little girl’s trembling hands (even if it was a prank, it's not too far from reality). Well, MagneTree’s first holiday season was not void of flashy sales. We had a promo calendar, coupon codes, e-mail blasts, and social media posts. We definitely added to the noise. But...
